Green Design

I consider traditional architecture to be inherently environmentally friendly.  Emphasis on forms that are timeless eliminates the need for updates and alterations to trendy styles that quickly go out of date.  The use of natural materials minimizes off-gassing of synthetic alternatives.  I also love to incorporate salvaged architectural artifacts and antique furnishings that decrease the carbon footprint of the materials on a project.  And the strong forms of traditional detailing can help passive solar design of a structure to seem of a piece with its compositional beauty.

That said, the green movement means constant innovation, yielding new designs and materials which I keep abreast of. I make use of new practices and materials  in architectural design as they prove their function and cost effectiveness.
